The Space Shuttle Discovery blasts off.  Launch was at approximately 6:25 a.m. from Cape Canaveral, FL at the Kennedy Space Center.  Rockets have just been ignited in this picture.

Launch plus 3 seconds: From nearly 10 miles away, the engine exhaust lights up the sky like the sun.  I couldn't use binoculars because of the brightness.

Launch plus about 1 minute.  The booster rockets are being dropped into the ocean.  We could finally hear the sound of liftoff as a low, ground-shaking rumble.  The crew of 7 is well on their way to fix the power supply of the Hubble Telescope.
